For some reason half of you use Internet Explorer as your main browser, of course that is your choice and from the perspective of a user, it is unlikely you will know anything is wrong with that.
In fact you are likely to think that all this anti Internet Explorer rhetoric is just another bit of Microsoft bashing and to some degree you would be right. There is a big problem with Internet Explorer. Unfortunately as many of you will know, its only developers who really see this but I predict it is going to hit all you Internet Explorer 6 users very soon.
IE6 is a terrible browser, the truth has just been hidden from users because web designers have spent an awful lot of effort going through all sorts of hoops so that their sites still work with it. Most of us are getting fed up with supporting it and I have started dropping it from my own sites (although I still develop my customer’s sites to be compatable).
Why on earth would you run IE6? Well a lot of people seem to believe that you need a genuine copy of Windows to upgrade, well this is no longer the case! Go and download a copy without fear of M$ finding out you are running an illegal version of windows.
But ….
You are better off downloading FireFox, simply put it is better, full stop. You wil get used to the differences in about 5 minutes, web developers develop for FireFox and then check on IE, so you are garanteed to see nearly all sites as intended. You may never have realised what you are missing as we have got good at hiding extra features from IE for fear of them breaking, rediscover
your favorite sites as they were intended.
Why am I writing this? Well some of you will have guessed, I have had a bad week with IE6!
